Falling, Running, Crawling, and Rolling Down the Rabbit Hole

It's late October! That means Halloween, my second favorite holiday is around the corner, Spring 2012 registration is revving up (which means I get to schedule tutors for next semester soon - GAG), midterms are over, preparation for finals is gearing up, there have been some job interviews and possible opportunities/options to get our family under one roof again, it's time to start acting on all of the Christmas gift plans I've been concocting over the past few months and I'm starting preparations for NaNoWriMo! So, I am now working on character sketches, loose story lines, research, and wishful thinking that this year I will make it passed the blasted finish line!

In other words, I'm busy! I know my posting has been spotty the past week or two (or three :\), but my limited spare time of 20 minutes is now about 8 minutes. I first started this as a Halloween costume, but then I thought how fun would it be to wear this out to dinner. To walk in Helena Bonham Carter's crazy shoes, to not care what others think, to be quirky and sexy all at the same time, to be able to pull off being a clown, a witch, a vampire, a sex symbol, a model, passionate, intense, laid back, and cool all in one swoop!

Fashion Fantasy Friday

On Labor Day I went to the mall (I hate the mall). But, I had a coupon on top of a 30% off sale at Gymboree and MJ needs fall/winter clothes, so off I went. I swung by Macy's to take a look at their Dooney and Burke handbags, I have my eye on this one and I've been hoping to snag it on sale somewhere, but they didn't have it. However, while there, I discovered Michael Kors' handbags. LOVE them. The one I wanted was this one (in white), a mere 348 dollars. It was the softest leather of all time, I wanted to snuggle and pet it and take it home and name it Snuggins. It's still at the department store. So, my fantasy for this week is Michael Kors:

Let's Twirl Our Work Woes Away



It's Monday morning, 8am-ish, and it is already nearing 100 degrees. I'm currently behind my gray desk, looking at my gray walls with white whiteboards (go figure), encircled by the gray and blue chairs that rest on the gray and blue carpet. I'm waiting for professors to post grades so I can determine if any of my nitwit students are going to be ineligible for the next semester and all I can think about is this picture.

I wish I could be in a field, surrounded by color, lots of color, barefoot, twirling in a lovely pink two-toned summer dress with a fun umbrella. A picnic blanket with a cheese and fruit platter and a bottle of wine wouldn't be too bad either. Although, being a native Oklahoman, if you ever see a sky that shade of green, or any shade of green, you better take cover because a tornado is coming to say hello.

Victoria Beckham Style and Fugly Models

For some reason, people tend to have very passionate opinions about the Beckham's, both positive and negative. Having never met them (unfortunately) all I can say is that David Beckham has mad soccer skills, is extremely handsome, and has crazy tattoos that only slightly take away from his looks and Victoria Beckham (minus the Spice Girl era) has impeccable style. I love her designs, it's too bad you have to be tall and a size zero to look spectacular in them, but her style is sexy and classy with a bit of spunk. Perfect. Just take a look...

Okay, this is just ridiculous. I'm ashamed of my jeans and t-shirt ways because in no way do I look that sexy in jeans and a t-shirt. Just for good fun, let us examine the Beck's Style...

David wins! Earlier today I was perusing Victoria Beckham's site and my plans on spending some lunch hour time day dreaming of a time when I could both afford a Victoria dress, but also squeeze into one turned into a face contorted, "eh?" While looking at the AW/11 dress collection I couldn't stop staring at the strange alien, zombie models. Perhaps they are pretty without the odd, very unflattering make-up, but yeesh! (That collection of dresses wasn't much to look at either). So, I started looking at some other designer collections and noticed a disturbing trend: the use of Fugly models.

I suppose I understand the theory that a designer wants people looking at the clothes and not the model, but why go the extreme opposite of beautiful to fugly? Drop it down a notch to pretty if you are so inclined, but please leave my appetite. In addition to the fugly, these models were still anorexic, unhealthy, and to put it simply, skeletal waifs. According to the media (who 99% of the time is full of BS and on a bought agenda - I digress) the fashion industry was supposed to be edging towards "healthy" models. You know, people like me who are 5'4 and 115/120 pounds. Okay, maybe they'll still go for the taller lasses, but at least get some muscle on them. Am I the only one grossed out by this?
